Cluj Medical University is one of the most prestigious universities of exploration and education and is included in the top 12 Romanian advanced education institutions. It started tutoring Medicine in 1872 and Dentistry in 1919 and has constantly evolved while erecting its ultramodern norms on long and good traditions.

There are over 9,000 students at Cluj Medical University with over 2,000 international students. The university teaches Medicine and Dentistry in English, French and Romanian.

The tutoring staff is known to give advanced academic tutoring which involves both theoretical and practical training for all the students. The departments are known to be equipped with ultramodern technology and well- grazed laboratories to grease the literacy process. The university is also accredited by the GMC/GDC which enables students to practice in the UK post graduation.

  • Cluj Medical University is a private research university in Cluj, Romania. It is one of the fastest developing medical universities in the country and boasts a very high quality of education.
  • Cluj Medical University has excellent facilities and is the only medical university in Romania with its own hospital. This means that students gain first-hand exposure to medical practice throughout their degree.
  • With a large and distinguished faculty on-hand, the university has a very good student-teacher ratio; meaning that all students get the support and attention they need to succeed.
  • Cluj Medical University draws a lot of international students, with students from over 25 countries comprising 75% of the total student body.

Medicine:

  • The university offers 6-Year Undergraduate medicine course and is taught in English, French or Romanian.
  • The first academic cycle lasts 3 years with a focus on pre-clinical studies and the related medical fundamentals.
  • The next three years focus on clinical education and includes surgical and preventive medicine courses and hospital experience.
  • Every summer, from year one to five of studies, students must work in university affiliated hospitals, medical centres or clinics.
  • Students need to complete a minimum of four weeks of work experience per year and get at least 800 hours practical experience over the first five years.
  • In their final year, students must write a personal research dissertation on a topic assigned to them by their instructor.
  • To complete their studies, students must sit the state examinations, including a written exam and oral presentation defending their thesis research.
  • Successful students are awarded a master’s degree and the title of “Physician” (MD).
  • All qualifications are recognised globally allowing graduates to practice in any EU member state or anywhere around the world.

Dentistry:

  • The university offers 6-Year Undergraduate Dentistry course and is taught in English.
  • The course is divided into two categories, 62% stemmatological courses and 38% medical, surgical, and fundamental theory.
  • From year one to year five, students are required to work summers in university affiliated hospitals, clinics or dentistry offices for a minimum of four weeks each year. A total of 800 hours is required over five years.
  • During year six, students must complete a number of integrated courses on complex oral treatment training and practical study.
  • They must also write a dissertation on a topic chosen in conjunction with their instructor.
  • To qualify, students must sit the state written examinations to assess their dental medical knowledge in both practice and procedures. They will also need to complete a practical examination in four subjects.
  • Students are required to defend their thesis with a presentation before a board of accomplished dentists and professors.
  • Successful students are awarded a master’s degree and the title of Dentist.
  • Dentistry graduates from Romanian universities include renowned professionals many of whom have contributed substantially to the field post-graduation.
  • Some continue with their chosen area of specialisation in Romania due to the large demand for dentists and availability of state funding.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. A completed application form.
  2. The Baccalaureate diploma or both an equivalent copy and authenticated translation in Romanian (translated if the original is in another language other than English or French) and transcripts of records / diploma supplement (copy).
  3. Transcript of records in recognition of previous studies for the university.
  4. Copy of valid passport pages 1,2,3,4 or an official valid ID.
  5. Birth certificate – both a copy and authenticated translation is required.
  6. Medical certificate containing:
    1. Proof of vaccination against hepatitis B
    2. Information about any chronic diseases.
    3. A full psychological assessment
    4. 4 passport sized photos
  • Cluj is the fourth most populated city in Romania and is one of the most important academic, cultural, industrial and business centres in Romania.
  • Cluj-Napoca has a diverse and growing cultural scene, with cultural life exhibited in a number of fields, including the visual arts, performing arts and nightlife. It also has a vast number of landmark buildings and monuments. One of those is the Saint Michael’s Church in Unirii Square, built at the end of the 14th century in the Gothic style of that period. It was only in the 19th century that the Neo-Gothic tower of the church was erected which remains the tallest church tower in Romania to this day.
  • A highlight of the city is the botanical garden, situated in the vicinity of the centre. Beside this garden, Cluj-Napoca is also home to some large parks, the most notable being the Central Park with the Chios Casino and a large statuary ensemble.
