Ivane TSU was founded in 1918, making this university one of the oldest universities in the Caucasus region as well as Georgia. Medical education in Georgia was established at Ivane TSU in 1918 with the establishment of the first Faculty of Medicine in Georgia. In 1919 the Faculty of Medicine was founded as an independent faculty, and at the end of the academic year of 1929-1930 it ceased the operation at the University. Admission of students to the medical program has resumed since 1994 year. Educational programme Medicine was accredited in 2011 and the first admission of international students was announced. The university was a leader in the South Caucasus region and Georgia in 2015-2021 by the number of students and staff who studied at European Universities. More than 2,500 mobility projects involving students and academic personnel from Ivane TSU and partner European universities were carried out during this period. Ivane TSU offers 24 foreign-language programs – BA, MA, PhD and one-step educational programs, including internationally accredited BA programs in Public Administration and Chemistry; ABET-accredited BA programs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. Ivane TSU is collaborating with 26 universities of 10 Asian countries.

Medicine:

  • The medicine programme duration is 6 academic years (12 semesters), delivered in English. On completion of the course, students will be awarded a Medical Doctor (MD) degree.

After graduating all students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge of biomedical, behavioural and social sciences, clinical disciplines as well as knowledge of the fundamental, ethical and legal principles of the field
  • Carry out consultations with patients
  • Assess a clinical case, schedule appropriate investigations, make a differential diagnosis, and develop a patient management plan
  • Provide emergency medical care to the patient
  • Appoint and prescribe medication
  • Perform  first-aid practical medical procedures (diagnostic, curative) in certain area of medicine
  • Establish successful medical communication
  • Apply ethical and legal principles in medical practice
  • Assess the psychological and social aspects of the disease
  • Apply knowledge and skills of evidence-based principles
  • Apply data and information technologies effectively in medical practice
  • Apply scientific principles, methods, and knowledge of biomedicine in medical practice and research

Dentistry:

  • The dentistry programme duration is 5 academic years (10 semesters), delivered in English. On completion of the course, students will be awarded the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.

After graduating all students will be able to:

  • Describe/identify chemical, biochemical, molecular, microbiological and histological processes in normal and pathological conditions in the human body, particularly of the mouth (head and neck region).
  • Classify, describe, differentiate and identify those somatic diseases, which are closely related to oral cavity diseases (stomatopathy);
  • Describe and review general research methods, including biostatistics and epidemiological;
  • Discuss, review and generalize health care and ethical aspects, list and formulate legal issues of patient’s rights and medical practice;
  • Identify/diagnose and classify of oral cavity diseases and conditions; Describe and review methods of prevention, making diagnosis and treatment, determine the possibilities of preserving the results of treatment.

  • Describe the methods safety management of doctor and patient;
  •  Obtain, sort and interpret the latest thematic literature, evidence based medicine (dentistry) data independently;

  • Selection, planning, analysing and practicing methods of prevention, making diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases. Planning and organizing ensuring oral health;
  • Effective management of the team work;
  • Selecting, analysing the methods of planning, implementation and evaluation of basic and alternative public health measures for ensuring oral health;
  • Planning, integrating and utilizing data synthesis, diagnostics and treatment methods in cases of complicated clinical situations and special need conditions based on the latest data;
  • Presenting, defending and arguing ideas and concepts, proposals, solutions, conclusions and recommendations in oral, in written or online in academic, professional circles, and with a patient or people accompanying the patient in native and English languages.
