New Vision University (NVU)

New Vision University in Georgia is one of the well-established universities. You can study both Medicine and Dentistry at this reputable institution.

Through an outcome-based teaching methodology that ensures high quality medical care and biomedical research in academic, in- and out-patient settings, NVU’s Medical Doctor (MD) Programme and Dental Medicine (DMD) Programme seeks to educate compassionate, knowledgeable, and self-assured doctors. The MD Programme provides medical education that is primarily practical (where knowledge is learned and organised and used practically using newly acquired skills), based on moral principles, respect for personal autonomy, and the idea of wise and effective interference. Through the NVU’s different training programs, NVU DMD students can provide required oral health services to the community, while expansion their knowledge about public health problems. These academically based training programs offer students and faculty members to take part in community-based activities as an important component of academic work.

Employed teaching and assessment methodologies enable the acquisition and organization of knowledge match with practical application of gained competencies. The MD and DMD Programmes’ principles of outcome-based education imply that teaching, learning and assessment are conducted on the basis of pre-defined competencies of graduates in accordance to the “top-bottom” principle.

  • Offers Medical Doctor educational program (360 ECTS) which aims to provide medical training, predominantly in a practical environment.
  • The DMD curriculum (300 ECTS) is comprised of five-year programme with a strong commitment to develop caring, competent, confident specialist for dental medicine through an outcome- based teaching approach
  • Results of the educational program are achieved through implementation of innovative teaching and assessment methods – problem-based learning (PBL), early-stage involvement into the biomedical research and provision of objectively structured clinical examination (OSCE).
  • NVU provides medical and dental training based on ethical values, respect for individual autonomy and on the premise of rational and efficient interference.

Medicine:

  • The university offers 6-Year Undergraduate Medicine course.
  • Students graduate from the course with an internationally recognised Medical Doctor (MD) degree
  • The program is structured with an innovative loop system. There are four loops in total and each loop builds on previous one and sets more complex learning objectives.
  • Students gain hands-on experience in the New Vision Hospital, which is owned and run by the university itself.

Dentistry:

  • The dentistry course at New Vision University lasts for five years.
  • The program aims to give students a strong understanding of all pre and post-clinical procedures relating to dentistry.
  • The course initially focuses on pre-clinical study through which students can learn dentistry fundamentals. In later years, the curriculum shifts focus to clinical training.
  • Newly qualified dentists can find employment in Georgia or practice in countries across the world such as the USA, the UK, Canada, or Australia.

Medical:

  • Many of the world’s Medical Councils require that the Medical School that awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) be listed on the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). NVU is listed on WDOMS.
  • Additionally, each region has its own requirements:
    • UK
      • The General Medical Council (GMC) expects a medical degree to have a minimum 5,500 Clock Hours over a minimum period of three years.
    • USA
      • The Educational Commission For Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) requires a medical degree to have a minimum duration of four years.
    • Australia
      • The Australian Medical Council (AMC) maintains an additional database of Recognised Medical Schools.
      • It also requires a medical degree to have a minimum duration of four years.

Dentistry:

  • Prior to application for the Overseas Registration Exam, international dental graduates must submit a record of their clinical experience and dental degree.
  • The General Dental Council (GDC) in the UK specifies a minimum of 1600 hours of clinical experience which:
    • Comprise hours spent completing appropriate investigations and/or administering dental treatment
    • Do not comprise time spent observing dentists or assisting other dentists/dental students
  • The 1600 hours of clinical experience can be:
    • From during the dental degree,
    • During post-qualification experience, or,
    • A combination of degree and post-qualification experience
  • NVU offers students the option to undertake clinical rotation opportunities abroad in the USA, Canada, Ireland, the UK, and Australia.
  • These rotations can be for a duration of up to three years in hospitals and medical facilities in alignment with NVU modules.
  • Students apply to NVU with the following documentation:
    • Their CV and preferences for the rotations (the location, the facility, the department and the desired length of placement).
    • Official authorisation of their application by NVU professors coordinating their medicine programme.
  • NVU can only offer a limited number of placements due to spaces available and correctly aligning the student’s modules, therefore applications are processed and offers are made in order of submission.
  • Studying abroad is an invaluable experience for medical students to expand their skills, learn in dynamic environments, and build their international network.

Scholarships:

  • NVU offers a 25% discount to all students as long as they pass the first year of their medical or dental programmes. Please bear in mind this only stands if students continue passing the subsequent semesters.

Applicants must provide the following information to Med Guide Europe (MGE):

  • MGE’s application which includes the following details: bio, education history and course for which you are applying.
  • A copy of your secondary education results with subjects studied, or copies of you graduate degree transcript and diploma.
  • Copy of your passport.
  • All documents need to be translated into Georgian to satisfy state directives. This is done for you by Med Guide Europe as part of our services.
